Big solar blast may hit Earth Satellites, pagers, cell phones and electrical grids could be affected this afternoon by a powerful stream of energized gas and particles from the sun. The coronal mass ejection, or CME, is expected to reach Earth about 3 p.m. EDT and its effects could last 12 to 18 hours, according to space weather forecasters. The solar blast erupted from a cluster of sunspots on the surface of the sun

Posted - 10/30/2003 : 12:24:55 AM I'm taking an astronomy course this semester and my prof said that these storms happen all the time, the only thing that's strange about it is that it's at a wierd time of year for these storms. |

Posted - 10/30/2003 : 12:12:42 AM has anyone felt any effects of this sunflare stuffs, i surely haven't, and wouldn't have known any difference had this message board not told me.

Posted - 10/30/2003 : 12:03:21 AM blowing up the sun was my idea first. i had it years ago. who the fuck does it think it is? dictating what time it is, burning our skins. it controls life itself. we've lived under the oppression of the sun too long. let's go kick some ass. |

Our mission becomes clear, providence calls for the elimination of Sol. Any galactic entities not with us, are against us. |

Posted - 10/29/2003 : 12:09:00 PM So, I hear we are supposed to get "hit" by this again today???? hummmm
Seriously I heard it could effect transmissions between the firefighters in California, I hope that doesn't happen! |

The physics in that movie are ridiculous. Almost as bad as "Total Recall."
Oh I know... you just have to chuckle when you see stuff like flaming wreckage in the vacuum of space, or metal polls falling to the ground with the full force of gravity... on an asteroid. |

looks like a bigger one is headed to us tommorow.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/space/10/28/solar.flare/index.html
quote: As this particularly fast-moving CME is aimed directly toward Earth, it is possible that when it arrives midday Wednesday, the geomagnetic activity will be strong enough to stir up electrical trouble.
"The eruption was positioned perfectly. It's headed straight for us like a freight train," said John Kohl, a Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics scientist, in a statement. "A major geomagnetic storm is bound to happen."
