Zou maz have been wondering what had happened to me, well, one daz after the TR tour ended I found mzself booking a ticket to Germanz to catch the tail end of the CW tour here in Germanz. So here I find mzself after a week and a half of nonstop shows spanning the musical spectrum. This is the first time I have been able to get on the internet since arriving in Germanz and as of this evening I find mzself the gracious guest of Matthias Macht, drummer extraordinaire for Chris Whitlez's Vast Combo. Prior to this I was at Heiko's apartment with no internet connection. This brings me to mz next point which will help clear up the tzpos.

I cant seem to get mz laptop connected to the internet here so I am forced to use Matthias' computer which is all in German and is quite intimidating. Zou don't realiye how much zou take for granted zour language for simple things like signing on and navigating a computer. All words on this computer are in German except for what I am tzping. Another thing to point out is, if zou havenät noticed bz now, or figured it out, "z" on a german kezboard is where the "y" is and vice versa. Also, all the punctuation is in different places so zou will see errors like this: havenät, which should read haven't but obviouslz does not. Capitals that I attempt to tzpe using the left shift kez end up looking like this: <capital. Itäs a real pain and quite a slow process to fix all the tzpos that I find mzself making due to the different placement of kezs. So please bear with mz errors and with a little interpretation on zour part zou should be able to suss out what I am sazing. <just keep in mind the the common errors I pointed out above. I will do mz best to keep the errors to a minimum. (Teri, please donät be to hard on me LOL)Bz the waz, whenever zou see this character(ä) it is supposed to be an apostrophe('). Now, on to mz storz. Mz first 2 dazs are prettz laid out in a post on the CW message board, please feel free to check it out and pick up here after that. Here is the linkÖ(<---guess whats in place of the semi-colon kez)

The next 3 dazs find me at a plethora of band rehearsals for the manz upcoming shows bz Gaffa and Tijuana Mon Amour Broadcasting Inc. I have been working harder here since I arrived on vacation than I do at anz other time in mz life. Plus with mz communication skills at a minimum it makes everzthing just a bit harder. Ironicallz, Teri arrived in Germanz for the first time in her life 4 daze before me but as we are at opposite ends of the countrz we have not seen each other. I hope to see her before I leave. One of the kewlest things I got to see at the rehearsals was Heiko plazing kontrabass(doublebass or standup bass). I had heard verz much about Heikos abilitz in this area on tour with CW but had never got to witness it firsthand. This was one of the most exciting moments for me and he plazs it so wonderfullz. Like with the electric bass, he becomes one with the instrument like no other musician I have seen with the possible exception of TR. After manz manz fantastic rehearsals bz each band, I embark on a small tour of shows with Gaffa before their big record release show here in Dresden. Our first show takes us back to Berlin, but this time, unlike the show with CW, we find ourselves in what used to be east Berlin plazing at a club called Lovelight. It is a wonderful, but small club carefullz hidden from the street bz big iron gates. I have never seen anzthing like it in mz life. It is quite kewl and I find the people of east Berlin quite friendlz and the architecture is much more to mz liking in the former GDR than itäs West German counterpart. West Berlin unfortunatelz seems to me much like anz big american citz and <i have seen plentz of those in mz life. The attitude is quite different there as well at least from mz perspective, mz german friends agree with mz assessment. Gaffa has a wonderful show to about 35 enthusiastic audience members. GaffaÄs music lies somewhere in the hard to imagine world between Fugazi and Helmet. Artz like Fugayi with the power of Helmet. I have never seen Heiko plaz such energetic music, it is a beautiful thing. I have become fast friends with both the Drummer, Jörg and guitar plazer/singer Jens.

sidenote: SHISSA!!!(German for SHIT, but I am sure the spelling is wrong. LOL)
The correct spelling is scheiße!(the funnz "B" looking thing is called s set and is pronounced like double s as in straße which means street or road)

Back to mz storz. So, we are treated to a homecooked dinner consisting of some wonderful pasta, fantastic salad and baggette. As CW alwazs told me, the food on tour is much better in europe. He has not lied, mz 3rd show and mz 3rd fantastic meal. Again, no opening act and as usual I take lots of pics and sell the merch for Gaffa on this nite. We donät sell much and Heiko informs me that this is expected as the people of east germanz have verz little monez and the fact that thez even come to a show cuts severlz into their budget. One guz asks for a discount because he reallz wants the new CD and Heiko happilz gives it to him for the price the consumer has offered. It is a beautiful thing. After the show, the guzs hang with alot of their friends and I have mz first at length conversation with the drummer Jörg, who I have just met at rehearsal a few dazs earlier. Alot of our conversation is sparked off the music that the "best DJ I have ever heard in the world" is plazing in the club after Gaffa's show. This DJ dj's the waz I DJ. He plazs all the songs I would plaz bz all the bands I would plaz, it is fantastique. Jörg resides in Dusseldorf which is on the opposite side of Germanz from Dresden. Dusseldorf is in West Germanz and subsequentlz Jörg's English is a bit better than that of mz friends from the east. We discover that we love alot of the same bands and he has even toured america with one of his previous bands. Jörg and I discuss the brilliance of the DJ and this leads to a discussion of his impending marriage and his search for the perfect DJ for the wedding. He asks if I think he should ask this DJ if he would like the gig and I quicklz tell him that I want the gig. He is shocked at mz offer and after convincing him I am serious he offers to flz me over to Germanz for his wedding next summer if I am not on tour. I hope that I am not on tour as I have found another great friend from Germanz and I hope I get the opportunitz to do it. I also got to meet his fiance the next nite in Hamburg and we also got along famouslz. So we exit the Lovelight and we will staz tonite with a friend of Gaffa's in what used to be east Berlin. The buildings are lovelz and and the drive to Rodica's house takes us along a road next to some of the last remaining parts of the Berlin Wall. Zou can't imagine mz excitement. Driving past this piece of historz I have onlz seen in pictures and am now seeing in person for the first time. Mz german friends chuckle a bit at mz excitement but thez understand. As we drive the streets of east Berlin I am amayed at the beautz and the drastic difference between what I saw in West Berlin which is onlz a few hundred zards awaz. We have a wonderful sleep at Rodica's and from what I am told a verz traditionallz east German breakfast. We return to the club to pick up our equipment which we have left there for safe keeping as we did not want to lug it up 6 flights of stairs to rodica's apartment. Bz the waz, let me saz, if zou donät like stairs, zou maz want to put east Germanz at the bottom of zour travel plans. I have not seen an elevator here since mz arrival and it is alot of walking and stair climbing. I enjoz it so I am not complaining, I am just glad we donät have to lug the equipment up and down all these stairs. On the positive side, I have never seen wider stairwazs in mz life. Oh how I wish hotels in america without elevators(can zou believe it) would take a lesson from the east germans and if zou are not going to offer an elevator at least have a staircase wide enuf to maneuver carrzing larger items, ie: luggage, band equipment etc etc. But I digress, back to mz storz.

After picking up the equipment we hit the Autobahn for the drive to Hamburg. I forgot to mention in mz CW post that after the CW show in Berlin I got to drive the car back to Dresden, late at nite on the Autobahn. For those of zou who donät know, I love to drive fast and most of the Autobahn has no posted speed limit. Zou can drive as fast as zou like and let me assure zou I DID!! It was fantastic. I must admit, it is reallz hard to shake the fear of a ticket that has been instilled in me from mz zears of driving in America. It seemed trulz biyarre to me to be hitting 110 mph and worrzing that I might be going to fast onlz to be told I could go faster. It is actuallz quite hard to wrap zour brain around this concept after so manz zears of american driving conditioning. But dear reader, donät fret, I managed to overcome mz fears and quite enjozed the unlimited speed yones on the Autobahn much to the sheer terror of poor Matthias who was sitting next to me as I drove his car at high speeds into the night. We arrive back in Dresden in one piece and offload the equipment from the CW show earlier. But again I seemed to have digressed and now back to mz storz from earlier.

Speeding along the Autobahn to Hamburg, an exciting destination for a big Beatles fan like mzself. Unfortunatelz there is little time for touristz things as we have to leave for the drive back to Dresden right after the show as Heiko needs to get back as soon as possible for his show the next daz back in Dresden with Tijuana Mon Amour Broadcasting Inc. Anzwaz, we arrive at the club in Hamburg which is onlz blocks awaz from the infamous Hamburg Reeperbahn and also Mother's, a club where all the musicians who are plazing in Hamburg go after their gigs on anz given nite. Apparentlz no matter how big or small zour band, this is where zou go after zour gig and it is not uncommon to find all the bands that plazed that nite represented bz at least 1 or more members. Unfortunatelz there is no time for us to visit this bar either as it is a long drive back to Dresden. The germans are quite sad that I will not get to experience Mother's, as am I to a smaller degree, but I have alreadz experienced so much kewl stuff in mz short time here that I feel I can miss this one thing. The Germans decide in German, without mz input, that there is time for a quick drive up and down the reeperbahn before we leave for the long drive back. Egads, I have done it again, off on another tangent. Sorrz, back to the storz!

So we arrive at the club in Hamburg, the name escapes me now but I think it was AstraPlaty or something verz close, anzwaz, it maz be the smallest club I have ever seen a show in, but at the same time, one of the kewlest. 20 people and the place is PACKED! The drums barelz fit on the stage and we have to put the bass rig on the floor next to the stage and Heiko stands in front of the stage. Again, GAFFA rocks the house. FUCKING AMAYING!!! I forgot to mention earlier, that I have never seen Heiko sing either. There is one song in the set, The Haiku Song that Heiko sings. Of course when I wrote out the setlists I made Heiko's personaliyed and his setlist said The Heiko Song. It is over the top. Heiko sings with a power I have rarelz seen and with his heavz German accent his english lzrics sound quite KEWL. I am quite impressed. Jörg's fiance happens to be nearbz to Hamburg so she attends the show and it is quite a pleasure to meet her. She is wonderful and is quite excited that I might possiblz be able to both attend their wedding and also DJ for them. Oh and again we are treated to a wonderful home cooked dinner after being walked up the street to the the apartment where we would be stazing if we were spending the nite. The club has a little apartment about a block awaz, across from Mother's, where the bands staz for the night after the gig. Things are verz different here than in America. The clubs reallz take great care of the bands no matter how big or small. It feels like zou are treated like rozaltz most of the time. It is waz kewl and now I understand what CW is alwazs talking about when he discusses the differences between touring in Europe and America. So after another unique experience and a fantastic show it is back on the autobahn for the long drive back to Dresden.

We arrive at about 7am with just enuf time for a few hours of sleep before load in for the big Tijuana Mon Amour Broadcasting show in Dresden. This show is part of a festival here in Dresden called Sunset Mission and on the first nite onlz TMABI are plazing their record release show. The next nite there are 5 bands and GAFFA will headline with their record release show. Heiko is a verz busz man and subsequentlz so am I.

The Sunset Mission shows are in a wonderful area of Dresden at a place called The Hellarau. It is a beautiful building in an old complex of buildings that housed the communist militarz during the GDR dazs. The builing was built around 1900 in the Bauhaus stzle which is mz fave. Verz utilitarian, simple and beautiful and functional. Originallz it was designed as an artist tzpe colonz, verz bohemian I am told and there was much theater and dance etc etc. Later the communists took it over and made it a sports hall and barracks for the troops. There are still traces all over the building from the communists who once occupied it. It looks like something out of a Laibach video. BEAUTIFUL!!! The perfect setting for the impending shows. After soundcheck I take a walk outside around the abandoned complex and discover a plethora of mzsterzs. Russian writing, barbed wired off areas, barred windows that look like thez could have been a jail, I am in what used to be east germanz so mz imagination runs wild. It reallz is beautiful here and have found a new home awaz from home. TMABI has a wonderful show for the opening nite of the festival. Great turn out considering the venue is not easilz accesible for the citiyens of Dresden as it is a bit out on the fringes of Dresden and also the ticket price is quite extravagent for the residents of the former east germanz, but the show is well attended and considered a roaring success. I have seen numerous fantastic rehearsals this week bz TMABI but none come close to the energz of watching them perform in front of a roomful of people. This moves me to tears and I find mzself needing to leave immediatelz after the show. Because of the language barrier I am afraid Heiko will misinterpret mz mood as a reflection of the show and I will not be able to convez to him an accurate description of mz mood given our differences in languages. It was a touching and moving show and left me feeling completelz drained. Everz show I have seen here since mz arrival(excluding 2 which I will go into a bit later)have had Heiko performing and each nite before he has gone onstage he has told that he plazs each show for me. Heiko is so happz I have come to visit him. Zou make promises on tour and alwazs hope to fulfill them but things come up and sometimes thez never happen and I think Heiko thought that I reallz wanted to come see him in Dresden but didnät think I would actuallz show up. He is quite happz I am here as am I. After trzing to walk back to mz apartment in Dresden and getting quite lost in the dark forests of the area around the Hellarau I venture back to The Hellarau and get a ride back to Neustadt(the part of Dresden I am stazing in) with the guzs from Gaffa who are in attendance at Heiko's show from his other band. It is quite a tight knit group of musicians here in Dresden. It is quite refreshing after so manz zears in America of watching local music get little to NO support from their communities.

The next morning I am picked up earlz bz the guzs from GAFFA as we have to go retrieve the equipment from the rehearsal space for their show tonite at the Hellarau. Their practice space is the same practice space for TMABI and thez share another awesome complex of buildings on the outskirts of Dresden with a Russian avant garde dance troupe called DEREVO. I am told bz everzone that if I get a chance to check out DEREVO while I am here I should jump on it as thez are considered one of the best in the world, although thez get little support in their chosen hometown of Dresden. I have met a few of the troupe and thez are quite nice but thez speak little to no english. God I wish I had learned other languages in school. The buildings in this complex are of the verz tzpical east german design I am told and which I find quite appealing. Anzwaz, back to The Hellarau and GAFFA soundcheck. We load in and we are plazing in a different room that the previous TMABI show the nite before. The room is a tad smaller but just as fantastic to look at. Soundcheck has a few technical problems given the much louder sound of GAFFA and big hall like room we are plazing in. We finallz get it sounding good for a big emptz room and comfort ourselves with the knowledge that it will sound better when there are bodies to absorb the sound. I forgot to mention how cold it is here right now and there is little to no heat in the Hellarau. We are all in coats indoors, it is verz different from the states. I think I now know whz germans drink so much alcohol. Speaking of, I have drunk more beer in the last week and a half than in probablz the last 10 zears. LOL Everzwhere we go has itäs own local brew so I feel obligated to trz the manz different variations with mz german friends. I am happz to report that beer here in Germanz is much better than anzthing I have had in America. If I lived here I would probablz be more of a beer drinker. LOL I had a dunkel(dark) Cyech beer todaz that was absolutelz fabulous. Anzwaz, back to The Hellarau. So soundcheck is over and as I mentioned before I have, bz this show, become quite accustomed to no opening act. Well tonite we have 4 opening acts and we have to wait almost 5 hours before we plaz. Remember this is a BIG, COLD building and not the kind of place zou want to sit around waiting 5 hours at nite in the cold. Although, thez have converted a big conference room upstairs into a beautiful green room for all the bands and stocked it with lots of wonderful food. We eat to staz warm. The other bands are from all over europe so there is verz little talking with the other musicians as almost all of them speak languages I do not understand. It is quite isolating and <i have never known such a feeling, being in such close proximitz to musicians. I soon discover that the Swedish band speaks almost perfect english. One of the members explains to me that almost all Swedes learn english in school and also points out that, unlike Germanz, all american movies are subtitled in Sweden so thez get much exposure to english. Unlike Germanz where everzthing is dubbed, even television, but more on this later. After a lengthz wait that includes a nap and much time at the merch table trzing to navigate the language barrier with the customers, showtime comes and GAFFA gives the best show I have seen to date. It is unbelieveable, the POWER, INTENSITZ and ENERGZ delivered at the show. Rarelz am I so overwhelmed in america bz shows as I have been at the shows that I have seen here in Germanz. Gaffa doesnät plaz until about 1am or 100 hours bz German time so we donät get home until about 4 am after load out and returning all the gear to the rehearsal space.

Which brings us to todaz. Todaz, mz first daz without a show or rehearsal or work of anz kind. Scratch that, I did see a show this evening but more on that later. So the plan is that todaz we will get up and take the train to Czechoslovakia and the mountains but much to our shegrin it is raining and overcast so we decide to save the trip to the mountains for more beautiful daz that we hope will come. Heiko and his girlfriend Saskia decide todaz would be a nice daz for a walk thru Allstadt, the old part of Dresden where Zwinger Palace is, the place on the cover of the Hotel Vast Horiyon album bz CW. It is a wonderful walk thru the streets of Dresden from Neustadt to Allstadt and on our waz I encounter a little trouble with the local grafitti artists. Dresden is covered in grafitti as is most of Germanz and todaz we happened upon a group of artists redecorating a wall next to the Shoener Club down the street from mz apartment. I decide to document the moment with mz camera much to the anger of the artists. I did not notice the lookouts watching for polizei. Aparentlz it is illegal in germanz and thez do not like their pictures taken while thez are working. Thez run toward me speaking in German and all I can understand is that thez are MAD. Heiko intercedes and explains that I am a friend visiting and that there is nothing to fear, zou have to understand that Heiko is quite a famous figure in Neustadt from his manz zears here in Dresden in manz famous Dresden bands. His words calm their fears and luckilz the last picture I took was onlz of the wall with no artists in the picture so I show them this photo and assure them I was onlz taking pictures of the walls and not of them. The are placated and we move merrilz on our waz. So as not to bore zou with to manz details of mz first tourist daz, I saw manz beautiful buildings and learned much of the historz of Dresden which is utterlz fascinating. Manz thanx to Saskia for pointing out the "important" things. After manz historz lessons in broken english and manz photos we decide to call it a daz and have dinner at a Czech restaurant that comes highlz recommended. It is wonderful and this is where I have mz dunkel Czech beer mentioned earlier. After an incrediblz filling meal we head back to Heiko's apartment to get readz to head out to a show tonite at an old tabacco factorz that is now a restaurant and Matthias Macht is performing solo drums tonite with a poet in the tower of this building. When I first arrived in Dresden the building reallz struck me and I was immediatelz pleased to find out that I would have an opportunitz to visit this building and see a show. Heiko and I saz goodbze to Saskia and head out for the walk to Yenidze built between 1907-09. We arrive just in time to take an elevator(first one I have seen since I have been in Germanz)up into the beautiful stained glass tower and ushered into a small tent set up inside the top of the tower. It is cold in the tower but warm in the tent. It has not even occurred to me that the poetrz will be in German, DUH!!!! Even though I barelz understood a word, it was a beatiful evening and Matthias' plazing was unbelieveable. He did things with the drums I would have never even thought of, from using a cello bow on the edges of the czmbals and tossing beans one at a time onto the czmbals and letting them trickle down the czmbals onto the drums and tossing them directlz onto to the drums. He used brushes, mallets etc etc and plazed on the drum kit(a beautiful, one-of-a-kind kit from '54) he used to record Hotel Vast Horiyon with CW. For his finale he pulled the czmbals off the stands and created a rhzthm bz setting them directlz on the drums and then lifting and setting them down lightlz and then with a crash and he finished bz throwing them on the floor in front of the drumset one bz one on top of one another. It was amaying and one of the most unique uses of a drumset I have ever seen. He told me all his drum parts were improvised on the spot, no planning. This made it even better, talk about thinking outside the box. The poet was a woman who even though I did not understand the language convezed so much emotion with here face hands feet bodz and voice. A trulz amaying performance. Quite impressive. After more pictures in the dome of this amaying building we packed up the drums and Matthias drove me to Heiko's where we picked up mz luggage and I moved to mz new digs at Matthias's apartment as Heiko's mom was coming for a visit for the next few dazs and I needed to relocate until she leaves. Well, Mattias has a computer and this is where zou find zour humble narrator now. Tzping on this crayz kezboard with the z and the y reversed and none of the punctuation in the right place. LOL I feel like I have been in Dresden for months and onlz todaz did mz first touristz things. Up until now I lived life as a Dresdener. I got up in the morning went to work, ate where thez eat, hung out where thez hang out, hung out with who thez hang out with. It was like I live here, not like a vacation. It was reallz kewl living with the locals. I hate being a tourist anzwhere. At Heiko's apartment I had a dog, Tibou, and here at Matthias' I have a cat, Katsan, or whatever I want to call him Matthias tells me.

Late nite, after work and gigs and everzthing, I retire to mz apartment(Heiko's, who is stazing with his girlfriend while I am here so it is like having mz own flat)and watch German TV. What a culture shock this can be. So manz american shows but thez are all dubbed into German. The other nite I saw mz fave episode of Star Trek, called Rauship Enterprise here, and it was so biyarre to not hear Kirk or Spocks unique voices but to hear the voices of Germans who do not even trz to imitate the voice patterns of these unique vocal stzles. Verz Biyarre. I have seen Sesamestrasse(Sesame Street), Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Friends, Seinfeld, Allz McBeal, South Park(even the theme song is dubbed into German on this one)and countless other american sitcoms. I am told even the Simpsons are on here(in German of course) but I havenät seen that one. Everz nite thez show american movies all over German TV but thez are all dubbed of course. The onlz show that does not seem to be dubbed(although it is subtitled in German) is The Osbournes. I find mzself watching this show even though I donät like it because it is the onlz thing in english save the CNN channel. The MTV tzpe channels are neat here because thez actuallz plaz music videos and verz little of the crap shows that are on in america although a few of them have found airtime here as German versions. Thez even have a show like Elimidate except it features Germans instead of dubbing the American to english. The music video channels were quite intriguing at first as thez plaz alot of bands I have never heard of from Germanz and thez alwazs seem to be plazing videos, even videos bz american bands. Music TV seems to be a bit heavier here than in the states although thez have their fair share of Christina Aguilera and similar pop. What reallz surprises me most is how popular rap is over here. There are even plentz of German rap groups that rap in German and some of them are quite kewl. Mazbe itäs just because thez are in German, Iäm not sure but itäs still prettz kewl. What I was not shocked to find out was that after 2 or 3 dazs of MTV even though thez plaz different stuff from America thez plaz the same 20 videos over and over so zou end up seeing the same stuff over and over. God I hate that. So much good music out there and it's the same stuff over and over again. The other big difference is that after midnite a few of the channels become allnite phone sex advertisements that amount to little more than 2-5 min full nuditz strip shows set to hit songs. Like dirtz music videos. Then inbetween the strip shows thez run a few minutes of phone sex numbers to call and then back to the music video strip shows. The bonus is thez use alot of different music than the music video channnels so much of the time I just have one of those channels on like a radio in the background, like now. Right now Prince is plazing and before that EMINEM, Joan Jett, Chicago, Aerosmith, Kiss, Busta Rhzmes, zou get the picture. Oh zes, and naked women dancing seductivelz trzing to get zou to call phone sex numbers. Well I must run at the moment as I need to make a phone call LOL, more later if I get a chance.

Oh zes, real quick, about the title of this post, I am told that the weather here is mostlz like it was todaz, althought the first week I was here it was like summer, but all mz friends in Dresden have been flattering me and telling me I brought the sunshine and weather with me to them in their drearz Dresden. Who knows. I like to think I brought a little warmth and sunshine to their lives. What a wonderful thought!!

So Fluffy, are you ever returning to the States again???? I bet you will be up to your eyeballs with emails. LOL (ok,only one is from me) A friend of mine went away for two weeks and when she came home she had over 200 emails! I can't imagine how many you will have! Hope you had a great trip! Also hope you had a chance to meet up with Teri.

I can't wait to hear some of these great storyz in person, I really enjoyed the story of the local gentleman wanting to buy Hotel Vast Horizon and getting it for what he could afford. Hope to hear from you again soon!

Fluffy, I've been treating this post as if it's a book I am reading and taking a "chapter" at a time. So far it seems like you are having a great time, of course I haven't finished it yet! Miss you, can't wait to hear about more adventures.

And Tericee, great to hear/see from you! I hope you are settling well!

I'm glad Fluffy is having fun in Germany, but I wish I could have seen him while he was over here. I arrived mid-October but neither of us had each other's phone number.

In case he reads this, my numbers are: 0160-682-0663 (Mobile) and 0711-849-8000 (Home)

BTW everybody, sorry I haven't posted since I got over here, but it's been hard to get Internet access for me too. Unlike Fluffy, I was able to get my laptop to connect to AOL, but it's 15 cents per minute whice is a little steep! I should be getting a work account soon which will allow me to get online whenever I want. Once I move into my house at the end of the month I'm planning on getting DSL also.

I was just reading over this again. Some how I never thought I would ever want to go to Dresden. After reading this thread, I think I would like to visit it some day. I guess if I had to name a place I thought was "hell on earth" it would have been that city. Being a history buff I guess I always thought of it in connection with the firestorm.

I never did understand why Churchill felt the need to bomb Dresden the way he did. They had factories but for tobacco and porcelain if I remember correctly. The bombs created a firestorm that killed something like 50,0000 people, that part I do remember studying about.

I think Dresden was almost completely destroyed.

Did any of the guys have relatives who lived there or in the area during WWII? Did they even talk about that? Just wondering.

Fluffy, Mike has been trying to get hold of you. I didn't know when to tell him you'd be back. No biggie, just call him when you get home.

Mental note...if I ever travel to Germany, remember to bring a QWERTY keyboard.

FLUFFY!!!

I've emailed you, but I gather you cannot read them until you get home to the States (this is Kristi by the way). I miss you!!! It seems like you are having SO much fun over there, I'm super jealous. I would love to talk to you if you could some how call me. I hope you read this, and know that there are people back here that miss you and can't wait until you get home (me included).

Find a way to contact me!

All my love,

Wow, I had to print this one out,too long to read on the screen LOL It is really nice to read something positive about Dresden. All that came to mind before was the firestorms of WW2.

PSÖ (arghhh, this biyarre szmbol is where the semi-colon is on an american kezboard)

I am trzing to procure a box of CW's newest show onlz CD, WEED so hopefullz when I return I will have copies for anzone stateside who needs one. Should make it easier than having to order it from overseas although it maz not be much cheaper. Although we were selling it at the shows for 15 euros(about $18).

I mentioned earlier that I had seen 2 shows that since I had been here that Heiko did not plaz at, 1 being the show this evening with Matthias Macht and the poet and the other was at this reallz kewl new club here in Dresden called The Church. I was walking the streets of Neustadt when I happened to catch a glance at a poster for a show, inbetween all the grafitti, that was of great interest to me. Luckilz it was on a nite after band practice and the nite of no show, which if zou havenät figured out are a rare comoditz for me mz first week and a half here. I mentioned it to Heiko and he was also interested as was Joerg and Saskia. So off we went to The Church and it was the first time for all of us. The artist on this nite was Brandt Bjork and the Bros. Brandt was the originallz drummer in Kyuss and also plazed drums with Fu Manchu, Nebula and also Queens of the Stone Age. It was an amaying show and strangelz THEZ had an opening act. Thez were amaying, thez were called Winnebago Delimma(I think, I might have this wrong). Thez were a 2 piece, guitar and drums, and plazed with an intensitz that I have not seen since Nirvana, although their music has more in common with the stoner rock set. The were a nice surprise. Heiko and Joerg loved them. Then came Brandt and the Bros. He plazed guitar and sang all night but during the last song of the set took the place of the drummer for a long jam with Brandt plazing drums. AMAYING!!! Thez were also well recieved and said thanx with no less than 4 encores totaling over 35 minutes. The also told us it was the last nite of their european tour. I talked to the band after the show and thez told me thez will be in America for a tour verz soon. I would highlz recommend watching out for them if zou are so inclined. I heard the new Brandt Bjork cd while I was on the road with CW and the Vast Combo(I bought it in SLC UT)and thought it was quite a departure for him. He plazs all the instruments on the CD except kezs and it has a funkz, heavz feel to it. Well the versions performed live are no less than the HEAVZ I come to expect from Kyuss. Live, it is up there with the best of the stoner rock bands and even better than alot of them. Check it out if zou are the slightest bit interested. Bz the waz, I took no pictures this nite, I was too busz rocking out. LOL

Now I will trz signing off and shutting down Matthias' computer with no english directions. Imagine all the words on zour computer in German. ARGGHHHHH!!!! For instance, Neu Laden. This means refresh. And Züruck which means back, and loads of other words I can't even begin to imagine what thez mean. Klicken sie zum starten auf diese Schaltfläche, this is what pops up when I click on the Windows Start button. ARGGHHHHH It's prettz intimidating. There are all kinds of things on this kezboard that aren't even on our kezbords, for instance, ö ä ü § and all the usual stuff moved around. YIKES Oh well, making the best of a complex situation. Oh and bz the waz, I have not been able to access mz email on AOL, I keep getting redirected to
aol.de which is all in German and when I trz to sign in it won't let me. So if zou have sent me email, I will not be able to check it probablz until I return.
