By the way, we did so well the lady who owns the place called us back and we get to play the Grand oppening on the 13th. It is a very new shop.

Wiegand's Law: As soon as you're gonna say something inapropriate in a crowed room, everyone shuts up.

congrats. nothing you can do about the technical issues. murphy's law in effect.

Glad it t'was good for ya buddy! I know the danger of fucked up guitars...Mayhaps a pickup problem? Or mayhaps a fake-linolium countertop?
thomasode Posted - 12/05/2003 : 5:49:01 PM
Well, I didnt mess up. But my guitar sure fucked up. It kept fadin in and out of the speakers. I was luckey that it was small enough for my leads to be heared. but overall it was a good experience

Actually I find that when I'm performing, at least to a good sized crowd, I often perform better. Strange things happen, like I might just throw in a lick where I've never thrown one in before, and it fits perfectly. One of my instructors used to call stuff like that the drug of music taking effect, where you're just kind of watching yourself play and not thinking at all, where it's all intuitive.

Of course you have to pratice alot to get there.

good luck, dude. it's comforting to know that people generally don't notice mistakes. hahaha.

i'd be much too frightened to speak after chef boyardee. he's a very moving speaker and an all around great guy.
pants_happy Posted - 12/03/2003 : 1:47:08 PM
dammit dan, that's some great advice, and it's all too true. when i die, will you speak at my funeral? chef boyardee is giving the eulogy!!!

the thing is, and this is something we all have to come to terms with as performers, our best performances are the ones we do in the practice rooms, wherever that may be. no one ever sees us at our best. rarely do we have a performance where it's as good as our best practice. that in mind, it is important that when you do make a mistake, (because it will happen, it happens to the best in the world) DO NOT stop to go back and fix it. a good way to stop this seemingly automatic reaction is to not stop immediately when you make a mistake in practice. when you make the mistake, make a concious decision to stop, say, two or so measures or whatever ahead. that way the reaction doesn't happen in a performance.

also, when practicing. once you got a song down, you've learned it, don't stop. you haven't practiced it yet. do it at least 20 more times right. the 20 times after is the practice part. the times through you made it without any errors should be greater than the times with mistakes by a little more than a few. if you stop before, the chances of making a mistake on stage is far greater.

that's what i do at least. seems to work.

thanks for the help. I'll probably just do this one (since its wednesday night gig) without inviting the friends. and the beer part..haha I am 15 (still a beer wouldnt hurt :)
