Posted - 05/01/2004 : 2:28:32 PM I know there was a discussion on here before about different formatting for DVD's. I just received what should be a wonderful dvd from France on The Tabla, which is what I am learning to play. Well, it won't play on my dvd player. Any suggestions other than going to France to play it, which actually sounds like a pretty good idea. LOL
How can I tell what locations it is formatted for? I was looking forward to this dvd......really disappointing! Talk about feeling dumb! |

Posted - 05/14/2004 : 8:22:11 PM I am going to try to get them too. I will get 2 tickets so if you can't get tickets and I do you can have one. You are right, they will sell out quickly! |

I have a number of his solo CD's too, I just love the tabla!
Jesse, you're shitting me, Ravi is playing at McCarter next year? Damn I don't want to miss that. He is a musical god, IMO. He puts on the most incredible shows!
He is indeed playing at McCarter (w/ Anoushka). Tickets go on sale in August. I'm going to try and get one, but I bet they'll sell like hotcakes. |

Posted - 05/06/2004 : 10:44:33 PM Ya I guess she had a good reason I remember reading something about it on her website so I checked and it says: "Due to a hand injury, Anoushka has been forced to cancel several of her concerts. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
That sucks I wish I was making the drive up to seattle to heat them on the 14th but I'll just listen to one of the many CD's I have of Ravi & Anoushka. |

Posted - 05/06/2004 : 9:45:05 PM I'm still pissed his daughter Annoushka, cancelled her performance at my school last Fall. I was dissapointed, but I'm sure she had a decent reason. |

Posted - 05/06/2004 : 8:24:21 PM Yeah, I'd be going to see Zakir but money is low; next year though, Ravi Shankar is playing in the same place. |

Posted - 05/03/2004 : 2:19:30 PM There should be a little globe symbol with a number on it, which indicates the region the DVD is for. If you look on the back of your DVD player, you should see the little globe with 1 inside since U.S./Canada is Region 1. Here in Europe we are Region 2.
Usually, DVDs like the one you bought are region free since there are no issues about release dates and the like. The other problem could be that in the U.S., our TVs and VCRs use the NTSC video standard, and in Europe they use PAL. If your TV is expecting an NTSC video signal, but it gets PAL, the image will be all garbled. The sound might be audible though.
If you feel like sending it to me, I could play it on my Region 2 player and record it on to a video for you. Or, you could do genome suggested and try playing it on your computer. There are ways to make your computer's DVD player pretend to be another region. If you're afraid of ruining your internal DVD drive, you could buy an inexpensive external DVD drive and hack around with it instead. There are websites that give instructions for that...
