HEY EVERYONE!
I did it, I closed the cancer chapter of my life and it feels great.
I thought that I would feel like this after my last radiation treatment, but for whatever reason I didn't.
This past Wednesday was the milestone for me though. I went to the hair dresser and got MY hair trimmed and colored (to hide some gray that was coming in, hehe). When I left the salon it was the first time I had gone outside without a wig or scarf covering my head since September! God it felt great! Such a rush! I never want to wear that wig again! I just feel so great.
I was a little concerned at how the kids I work with at school would take the change but I shouldn't have. (Before I had straight, just above the shoulder, light brown hair with blond hightlights. It grew back in dark brown, almost black and curly! Go figure!) Anyway, I walked in my first period pre-algebra class and the kids jaws just dropped! I explained that I had cancer and lost my hair and that I had been wearing a wig. Now this was MY hair with CHEMO CURLS! You wouldn't believe it, they all started clapping!
One of my coworker's gave me a badge that said, THIS AWARD IS GIVEN TO MRS K. FOR LOOKING SO YOUNG AND SEXY! Of course I was given this in front of a class full of 7th graders so yesterday one boy came up and said "Here's my test, Mrs young and sexy!" LOL
Ok, Just wanted to share this with my family here. I want you all to know that shit does happen but there is an end to the shitty things that fall into our lives.

Congratulations Pam! It is truly a blessing and I am glad that you are still able to teach and to post on this board! It would be a lot colder without you. |

That's awesome Pam, great to hear your trip to the salon was so powerful. (Mine can be depressing as I notice less and less hair each visit.. hehe). I never would have thought that to be a closing chapter, but it certainly makes sence now that I hear it.
