OK, so I've always heard great things about Tom Waits, but I've never really given him a chance... always just dismissed him because of his voice, but a coworker played me his new cd, and I was HOOKED! Very raw sound, which I like. Track 2 "Hoist That Rag" is a work of genius. If downloading is your thing, check that song out. So are there any fans out there? This new one is the only thing I've heard... are all of his cds so eclectic?

I absolutely LOVE Tom Waits! Check out Raindogs, it's by far and away his best. The song "Clap Hands" sends chills up your spine, and "Gun Street Girl" is fantastic...not to mention the fact that Keith Richards guests on a couple tracks. But Tom Waits is one of my all-time favorites, he's an expert songwriter and creates some of the most original rhythms and melodies ever. Listen to clap hands and you'll see what I mean...

When my dad was in college (early 70s) he saw Tom Waits play. Waits stopped playing in the middle of the song, stepped outside, puked, and came back to finish the song.

I've got a good amount of Tom Waits' stuff, and it's all that ecletic. I like to think of it as Whiskey Music.

It funny that you mention him. I liked some stuff my friend showed me as well and I listened to it just last weekend.

He's got this one song where he's just adlibing the entire time and it's awesome. I htink the song is called 'step right up'.

His voice is a little odd but sometimes its so appropriate for the music.
