Has anyone seen a show on Food Network called Good Eats? It's host, Alton Brown, puts on a cooking show that's one part Julia Childs and one part Mr. Wizard. I've been tivo'ing it religiously over the last year. I've got over 90 episodes on my Tivo. Alton not only teaches you how to cook a great meal, but he teaches you the science behind it so you know why it tastes so good.

He makes Emeril look like a chump (not too hard, Emeril has been seduced by the dark side of cooking. Cilantro, mango slasa, raspberry vinaigrette!). Thanks to this guy I've learned how to cook real meals, and how to improvise with whatever someone may have in their pantry. I've made a turkey that fed 30 people and I received complements from all of them, most of them saying it's the best turkey they've ever had. In my circle of friends I'm now considered the "chef". Hell, my mom has even started calling me for advice on dishes and equipment.

Anyone else watch this show?

I can't believe how many views this thread has. Must've been popping up on Google or something.

It's funny this is a post that is revived from the dead. I think people are googling Alton Brown or Good Eats or some combination and finding our sick little world.

ahh the wonders of porn, even soft-core porn...

Ah, having gone without cable tv for about 6-7 months now, the ol' food network is off the radar for me. It is one of the few things I miss though.

Good Eats is amazing. Alton Brown doesn't tell you how to cook, he teaches you how to be better.

If you've ever seen the one where he dresses up like Colonel Sanders and makes an upside-down cake...my god that was hysterical.

I still prefer the "Everyday Italian" woman to Rachel Ray. Though I saw a very old episode of $40 A Day the other day and I will say that she is way hotter now than she was back then.

Holy shit...did anyone notice this thread has over 15,000 reads? Anyway, sad day in Good Eats land for me.

The hard drive in my tivo seized up, and I lost all 139 episodes I had recorded over the last two years. I was able to swap out the hard drive, but I couldn't recover any of the episodes. I figure it will take at least half a year to get them all back.

The pics of Rachel Ray need to be revived as well.

I watch the food channel all the time i like most of the shows but good eats is a good one it has some lame ass skits in it though so it is not that good of a show
therippa Posted - 01/08/2005 : 2:59:22 PM
Hopefully this will look more delicious than the pics of rachael ray...

behold the prime rib I made for xmas dinner. Recipe courtesy of Alton Brown.

I'm gonna second the "ack" comment regarding rachel. It's not a bad show to watch on mute, but when she starts talking, it's all over for me.

Alton Brown, on the other hand, is the Steven Hawking of food. He breaks down all the stuff we take for granted and makes you understand why your pancakes taste like shit. Go Alton.
KevinLesko Posted - 12/30/2004 : 02:30:39 AM
Wow, I never knew such pictures of Rachel Ray existed... but I'm glad they do.
SandyCarl Posted - 12/22/2004 : 11:12:14 PM
woof I wish I had the Rachel Ray channel.
gil4president Posted - 12/22/2004 : 9:39:01 PM
I watch that show alot it's a good one I especially like the one where he was stranded on that deserted island that wasn't really deserted.
PJK Posted - 12/19/2004 : 09:02:56 AM
Nope, never watched it but from the sound of it, maybe I should!

HAHAHAHAHA I could say something about that, but I won't! LOL
pcbTIM Posted - 12/19/2004 : 04:06:59 AM
Wow.....cooking with only a bra and a skirt? That's gutsy.
Erich Posted - 12/18/2004 : 5:21:18 PM
to echo Kev's statement almost exactly, my girlfriend watches food network all the live long day, so i find myself watching it more cause of her too.

And Ive always loved Rachel Ray, regardless of what she's cooking. Id give her a 30 minute meal any day.
Fluffy Posted - 12/18/2004 : 4:37:52 PM
I am actually quite surprised how many food network fans there seem to be. It just never occurred to me to watch such a channel. I am amazed how many people do and some quite religiously apparently. Blows me away. LOL To each his own. I guess I just don't see the allure. It's OK, people say the same thing about me and porn. LOL
GuitarGuy305 Posted - 12/18/2004 : 4:16:57 PM
Ack, I can't stand Rachael Ray.

Good Eats is awesome though. Alton Brown is hilarious, and the stuff I've made that I've seen on that show is great.

Oh Kev, we know why you watch $40 a day.....

I am just amazed your girlfriend lets you. LOL Maybe after she sees these pics she won't. LOL
KevinLesko Posted - 12/18/2004 : 1:50:10 PM
Yeah, not to sound like a shmo, but I've gotten into the food network lately thanks to my girlfriend. I guess now that I'm 23 I need to lay off the Top Ramen and start eating some real food. I agree that guy from Good Eats is pretty interesting to watch... not to mention the really bad jokes and skits that appear time to time. I actually like to watch that $40 a Day show as well. Whoops, now I sound like a shmo.
Zachmozach Posted - 12/18/2004 : 1:30:42 PM
I never watch any of that stuff and if I want to eat food that tastes really good I get stoned.
