Yeah, I would like to know too. Richard is a big family name. My father and brother are Richards and both went by the nickname Dick. (also before the slang, or at least that I was aware of)My husband is a Richard but goes by Rich and my cousin is a Richard that goes by Richie. NO WAY in hell my son would be a Richard! He's a William and goes by Bill. 
Oh and my brother tried to be called Richard a few years ago (has a doctorate degree, but took him til then to realize the slang????? go figure) Anyway, someone found a cartoon with a big white whale on it and it said "From now on I want to be called Moby Richard!" My brother saw it and realized it was too late to change his name. LOL |

Everyone calls my grandfather Dick. But maybe it wasn't used as slang until after he got his nickname. Anybody know when it started? |

who would want to be called "dick." in all honesty. when you consider the alternate meaning the word has taken on lo these past many years, why would you willingly take that name for yourself? any dicks here care to answer for me? |

My principal in high school was Dick Ball, till he caught on and changed to to Richard. |

I once worked with a girl named Shithead and that is exactly how it was spelled too. No lie! But she pronounced it

The name of my friend's doctor is Flash Gordon.
In my hometown there is a funeral director who proudly puts his name on the sign of the place - Harry Weiner.
I know a Carly Davidson and a Remy Hennessey.
And yes, I knew a Ben Dover in grade school. |
