Posted - 05/31/2005 : 1:17:28 PM A few of my favorite games--I realize their are tons of games I've never played but these few stick with me as amazing:
Strategy: Starcraft
party game: Smash Brothers
Fighting game: Street Fighter 3 alpha
Racing game: Mario cart
First person shooter: Unreal Tournament
Arcade game: X-men (the 4 player one from the early 90's).
I'm interested to know what people's favorites are--and in addition: What has the best graphics? Which is the most fun overal to play with other people? What is the best strategy game?

Posted - 06/12/2005 : 4:07:12 PM I forgot to mention Final Fantasy X. When I first got that game, I played it for 13 straight hours.
Still haven't beaten it, though... |

Jeez only $300 thats only...alot of money.
...except they do. just what are you buying when you buy a game console? a magic machine grown from a giant's nutsack? perhaps a computer made strictly for playing games (music and next gen entertainment extras aside)? xbox and gamecube cost the companies more to make than they were selling them for (i'm not entirely sure about sony and ps2). why would they take such a loss? they more than make up for it in games. any title that wants to be manufactured for their console has to pay an average of $15-$20 right off the bat, per copy of game. for a game like halo2, around 6million copies sold, that $120 million right there. and if that's the case, why not make a game for pc, which are generally cheaper and require much less testing? publishers are the key to EVERYTHING, and pc game's are generally considered a much higher risk than console.
'"It usually takes about five years for a game maker to collect all development costs for a game console," said Hideaki Kurimoto, who helps manage 300 billion yen as a fund manager at Meiji Dresdner Asset Management Co. One solution for Sony is to widen profit margins by lowering production costs, a move that would also provide the company with room to cut the PlayStation 2's retail price, analysts say. On Thursday, Microsoft said it would cut the retail price of its Xbox to 199.99 euros ($215), which analysts, including Credit Suisse First Boston's Jay Defibaugh, say may set off a round of price cuts at Sony and Nintendo. Cutting prices can dent earnings since most console makers lose money on each game box they sell, reasoning that higher- margin software sales will offset any hardware losses. For example, Microsoft loses about $70 on each Xbox it sells, Banc of America Securities Inc. analyst Bob Austrian said in a research note to clients in December. Sony's game unit probably makes about 3,000 yen on each PlayStation 2 it sells, Nikko Citigroup analyst Soichiro Fukuda estimates."

Posted - 06/08/2005 : 7:01:19 PM Very true... you know that they will play any game that comes out on whatever particular console it is for the entire life of the console. PC's... damn. I'd love to play the likes of Doom 3, Half Life 2, Far Cry etc... but my P3 says no dice. |

Posted - 06/08/2005 : 12:51:55 PM I think people will need at least a geforce 6800 ultra 256 mb or equivalent. Game companies like to joke around with minumum specs for games, but those are just flat out lies. I anticipate all future games will need at least one of those cards, and by the end of 2006, you'll need at least 2 256mb ultra's running in sli. I hear the graphics power of the new PS3 is equivalent to two 256's running sli...I am happy to have built a machine that can handle this stuff. But of course it costs 10 times as much as the console will.
That is one good thing to be said for consoles, that whatever game you buy is guaronteed to work on it. |

Earthbound was awesome as well. |

Posted - 06/01/2005 : 1:00:27 PM yes, lord soth is in it. He's so cool. All that point a finger at someone and command them to die stuff you see in action. The series goes: Champions of Krynn, Death knights of Krynn, and then Dark Queen of Krynn. It's really old stuff though--made in the pre-386 computer days. Dark Queen needs at least a 286 to play, but it still is super fun. Casting delayed blast fireballs, cone of colds. Finding hidden items like the vorpal long sword and having a certain percentage chance of beheading your enemy and killing them outright. Eventually there is a ninth-level magic user spell called power-word-kill, which is similar to lord soth's power. All the THACO, die rolling, stats, everything is managed by the computer, who is basically your dungeonmaster. You can probably download the game from some sites now, if you can't still buy it. |

Posted - 06/01/2005 : 12:47:11 PM it's really good. death knights of krynn? i wasn't aware that they made dragonlance games. does it have lord soth in it?

Hit select before start for 2 players.
That code will always be in my memory.
Rest 30
Baldur's gate is hot I hear. I used to play D&D games--treasures of the savage frontier, death knights of krynn--for computer, and I hear baldurs is the modern form of those games. I should check it out. |
