Snopes very surprisingly had nothing about the brown note urban legend. I did see the episode of Mythbusters concerning it so I was skeptical when I read this "news" story.

From wikipedia concerning the details of the mythbusters episode:

The brown note was tested on the television show MythBusters using twelve Meyer Sound 700-HP subwoofers—a model and quantity that has been employed for major rock concerts. Normal operating frequency range of the selected subwoofer model was 28 Hz to 150 Hz but the twelve enclosures at Mythbusters had been specially modified for deeper bass extension. The experimenters on the show tried a series of frequencies between 5 and 10 Hz at a level of 120–153 decibels of sound pressure, but they were unsuccessful in producing the rumored effects. The test subjects all reported some physical anxiety and shortness of breath, even a small amount of nausea, but this was dismissed by the participants, noting that sound at that frequency and intensity moves air rapidly in and out of one's lungs.

Here is some other things I found out about the brown note:

The issue of the brown note is just a red herring. Noise in military aircraft was, and is a problem. The "right stuff" era research has been superceded by more up to date research. Though even in those days people were considering the effects of LF on the human body. It had long been suspected that the relatively poor performance of bomber crews was due to something other than poor aiming devices or unskilled crew. The finger was pointed at human disfunction caused by high noise levels and LF sound. At the start of the Apollo programme. NASA constructed a chamber to test human performance under conditions of high level sub 50Hz exposure. This used a 14 foot double cone speaker. Driven using a belt like a SDL5 with a rotary hydraulic motor. If I remember correctly they could achieve 160db+ at 3Hz. On human test subjects, using frequencies from 0.5Hz up to 40Hz they noted, motor ataxia, nausea, visual disturbance and most importantly, degraded task performance.

These tests could be the source of the "brown note" urban legend. The above stuff is from the following link:

Above is about half of what was written about it but it is all worth a read if you are at all interested in sound and as most of you are musicians I figure you would be. hehe

This following link is also a interesting link on the subject plus the pic attached to his explanation just makes me drool. ME WANT!

PLUS with these guys creds in sound and especially low frequency sound I am way more into listening to their points of view that some dumb ass news story from FOXnews, the leader in propoganda. hehe

Here's the first thing that comes up on an image search:

i'm pretty sure googling "gay bomb" will yield some unsavory results.

Haha

Do you guys remember the "Gay Bomb"? Google it.

Apparently it was one of the biggest failures of 2007 (I think). The bomb would give off some chemical that would make the soldiers irresistible to each other.

god, i really hope this thing is real, because this isn't about politics. this isn't about protesters. this isn't about civil right.

this is about making a large group of people shit their pants.

"'When we conducted the low frequency experiment for the Brown Note episode of MythBusters, we tested a variety of low frequencies and no involuntary gastro-intestinal motility was caused,' he said."

sounds scientific!

Fake.

I don't believe it cause it's just too funny to be true but the country isn't the only thing that's dead.
