There's this great music blog: Captain's dead. He's got a bunch of random live/demo CW cuts. It's mostly "Living With the Law" stuff:

Robin, if you are reading this you should go to the Santa Cruz show! I would really like to hear them, too bad they are only touring in the west. I am sure enthuTIMsiast would love them too, but they are touring in the south either!

The similiarities are pretty astonishing Fluff. Thanks for the drop on the Sprawl, I don't think I'll be able to make any shows though. He's got a bunch of great songs for free download on his myspace. The song "Sunset Train" is especially great.

This seems to fall more in the "random" CW thread than the official CW thread so here goes....

Heiko Schramm and Mattias Macht from Chris Whitley's Vast Combo are back in the states touring with another amazing American guitar player. His name is Paul Sprawl out of Santa Cruz, CA. The new project is touring under the moniker "Worn Out West". I think all the CW fans will be immediately taken with Paul's music. Imagine CW meets Michael Hedges. Yep, that's what I said. If you watch the videos on his myspace page you will see what I mean. Very diverse styles of playing on each song. One really reminded me of watching Matt Winn play. Very kewl!

I am sure KevinLesko, Rubylith, Arthen, PJK will be on board immediately. I am hoping the rest of you will also "get it". Here is a link to a Paul Sprawl bio for more history on him:

As I mentioned above, Worn Out West is touring. Sadly for me it is only on the West Coast. I talked to Paul on the phone the other day and apparently he is going in the studio while in Cali to record a record with Heiko & Mattias. Can't wait for that. If you are lucky enuf to be on the West Coast in Oct here are the tour dates so far...

Oct. 3 Old Curtis Street Bar (Denver)
Oct. 4 Steve's Guitars (Carbondale, CO)
Oct. 5 Applefest (Cedaredge, CO)
Oct. 8 Cafe Passe (Tucson, AZ)
Oct. 9 Mama Java (Phoenix, AZ)
Oct. 11 The Raven Cafe (Prescott, AZ)
Oct. 12 Hotel Monte Visat (Flagstaff, AZ)
Oct. 13 Mad Italian Rooftop (Flagstaff, AZ)
Oct. 15 Arcosanti (Mayer, AZ)
Oct. 17 Brainwash (San Francisco, CA)
Oct. 18 The Yoga Center (Santa Cruz, CA)
Oct. 22 The Cobalt Cafe (Los Angeles, CA)
Oct. 23 Sunset Market (Oceanside, CA)
Oct. 24 Artist's Union Gallery (Ventura, CA)

Tour dates can also be found on Paul's myspace page! Check out some new music!!!

Pint of Lotion(LIVE) Really show cases CW's unique approach to guitar playing.

At 3 mins 30 secs because of the lighting it actually looks like Chris is wearing those things TR wears on his head during Kaballah.

Hellhounds On My Trail(LIVE)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1vZ3NIuJ3s

Quote from Ken Helie, Whitleys tourmanager at that time:

"So we show up on Friday in Cleveland, head over to the venue, just the two of us, bands and crews and gear swirling all around, just like it always was at these festival types of shows, and off to the side, just me and Chris hanging out, just a guitar, the trusty boot board, and a Beta 58 vocal mic to worry about. We get bumped from sound check, like we always did . . . so no one hears Chris play until we get called to the stage to perform. Now, as anyone who's seen the film of this performance knows, Chris turned in a rendition of 'Hell Hound' that night that was unforgettable. He was Robert Johnson that night. One man, one guitar, one boot, and he tore it up. As we were leaving, the legendary Robert Lockwood Jr. pulled me aside and asked if I worked for Chris. I replied that I did, to which he said, 'Tell that boy he plays like three men.' "

There's a little town not far from where I live called Whitley Gardens, and without fail the signs always make me think of CW. So I put some on in the car or wait to get home then watch him on youtube rockin' "Hellhound on my Trail." He's up jamming with the angels now.

I was just about to come here and start a thread about missing CW.

Weird.
