I can't wait either... but I promised my buddies I'd wait until Friday to see it with them.

I'm curious to see how the Merovingian plays into this whole thing, seeing as how the Merovingians were a line of French kings who were thought to be the descendents of the children of Jesus and Mary Magdalen... all covered up until the 20th century by a group called the "Priory of Sion."

Sion... Zion... I'd say it's a second Matrix-- a holding ground for those who wouldn't accept the bigger Matrix. That makes a lot of sense if you listen to what the Architect says and what is said about choice elsewhere in the films. Too many clues to type out, but they're all there.

Everyone knows the story of Persephone as well... so I'm expecting her to play a big role in this last one too.

I'm going to go see it in about 30 minutes on the IMAX screen in San Francisco...we're all sneaking out of work.

I'll post a review

it would be great fun to go into an in depth discussion about matrix, but i save that for tolkien's work in silmarillion and lord of the rings, mostly because there's about 10000 times more things to discuss. especially when you realize that no part of his work allegorical.

Well, I just got back...my hearing is slowly starting to come back as well. IMAX is LOUD!!! Pretty good movie, we were all wrong with our assumptions in the previous Matrix thread (I'll bring it to the top after this). The war in Zion was simply amazing, and the final showdown at the end was incredible. Monica Belluci had no lines unfortunately...and you didn't get to see her from the waist down

All in all, not as good as the first, almost as good as the second. Too much spfx, not enough story, not enough explained. Plot holes as big as the pores on Laurence Fishburne's face (on the screen I saw it on it looked like you could ride a dune buggy through them!) I don't want to spoil anything, go see it and we'll talk some more.

not excited, but I am going to see it at midnight tonight. Well, if the movie sucks, at least part of my ticket price went to support the NAACP. So somebody will get something out of it.

I plan to go very high.

Once again Dan, I find myself agreeing with you! That reminds me, I need to re-read the Silmarillion!

I'd be more than happy to participate in that discussion.

I don't think so. Since it was all heavy with the biblical references, I think that it was just pointing back at those stories. I don't know if audiences could take another one.

personally, i thought that it was the matrix in name only. i'm not a huge fan of the movies (but i thought the first was pretty damn good). there are no ground breaking sceens, no concepts that really make you think (which to me is what the matrix is all about) and just a very generic plot, series of struggles, with an especially generic ending that totally doesn't fit the matrix at all. that's just my opinion. how did the rest of you like it?

haha. plenty of fun stuff. whether the balrogs had wings, how does bombadil fit into the mythology, eru's intervention in the downfall of numenor and its implications in regards to free will, the second prophecy of mandos (irmo). rock on.

one good thing about going to the matrix is the preview for the return of the king. but, if you saw the texas chainsaw massacre, you probably saw an even longer trailer.

but i'm not saying the movie was totally bad. the thing about zion being a 2nd matrix that we we're all wondering about would've fit in the movie perfectly, maybe that's why it was a little disappointing to me, because i completely expected that to happen. but, it was like purgatory. not really bad, but not really good. it's about so-so... more or less.

I thought the movie, independent of the other two, was great. Very entertaining.

I thought the movie, as it relates to the plots and forshadowing of the other two, was a real let down. Turned out that all the aparent depth to the story that was heavily hinted at in the first and second film just wasn't there. In that respect, the Wachowskis could have done much much more with this movie.

Well, I saw this movie twice this weekend. One with my brother, then another with a friend along. I liked it better the second time actually. I loved the battle to save Zion, and I thought it was cool that Neo and Smith had that Dragon Ball Z type fight in the Matrix. Overall, I thought it was good.

I'm forgetting the correct spelling of the top of my head...

I always thought of Bombadil as a Maiar (sp?). You know, like a demi-god.

there is a theory that he is a maia. but that doesn't quite add up because the ring has no effect on him, whereas it has effect on all the other maiar that it encounters. it seems beyond the power of any maia, except maybe eonwe. my theory is this:

in the great music when melkor first rebelled, there were those that followed him, and there were those who stay true to the theme of iluvatar. but, the valaquenta also states that there were those who fell silent. bombadil was one of these. because he didn't stay with iluvatar, he left presumably with the rebels, as did all the ones who stopped singing. but, because he didn't side with melkor, he didn't go with him to utumno. it is quite possible that bombadil is a full fledged, half fallen vala. a lawful neutral, so to speak. this explains his power over the ring (sauron being a maia) and his statement in fotr about him being here before the dark lord came from "Oustide." the dark lord refers to melkor, not sauron, since sauron entered arda with melkor and didn't become the dark lord unil the second age.

it's the only one i'm really satisfied with. he can't be a known vala because all the maiar in middle-earth would have reckonized the presence of say, ulmo or manwe or any of the other powers. but he seems to powerful to be a maia. he certainly isn't a man, elf, dwarf, hobbit, or any evil race.

i'd say so. goldberry is called "daughter of the river" which makes me think she has a connection to ulmo. but since the valaquenta tells ulmo took no spouse, the safe assumption would be that she too was a silent vala. either that or she sided with iluvatar but came into arda with bombadil.

tom bombadil is actually a toy. tolkien imported him into middle earth. all i'm doing here is making him fit into the mythology.

I'm getting all confused between the Matrix and Tolkein discussions. I was disappointed with Revolutions also.

Since dan started with the spoilers, I'll add my two cents.

I thought something would come out of the idea that two programs "fell in love" and created a program that they loved. Shouldn't the love in the little girl have affected Smith at least a little bit?

And why didn't Neo's slaying of the partial Smith outside the Matrix not affect the one inside the Matrix at all? Very annoying.

I'll probably see it again at some point anyway.

Not really, the little girl was still just a program

Because Smith really just "hacked" Bane's brain through the Matrix interface. That's why the doctors said he had scar tissue and cross-firing synapses in his brain. Smith changed the way his brain works to emulate his.

Just saw it. I don't know for sure that Neo died, so I wouldn't be quick to proclaim that Dan.

I thought the ending didn't make sense. What's to prevent the robot collective from tearing apart Zion after Neo defeated Smith? If you were the collective wouldn't you just go kill all the humans?

I liked it, but I wasn't blown away at all.

I thought it was a decent flick but the unoriginality of Neo being Jesus was so retarded. Down to the cross in his chest when they were killing him, bullshit, complete bullshit.
