| man we just watched the dvd him live at the spoons or something like that but they had this chinesse monk a goty monk or something.. he could sing 3 tones at once!! it was outa this world.. really crazy.. also how about the guy who made his own drum machine whata genius... |

| Are you referring to Live at the Quick? Yeah, the guy is amazing. The band is amazing, we've got a lot of posts about them here, but if they are playing by you go, as fast as you can. Or even if it's just Victor Wooten or Bela Fleck solo, got and see them. |

Yeah Kongar-ol Ondar is the man. Check out this site it's about tuvan throat singing which I haven't got down yet. http://www.fotuva.org/music/emory.html If you can get a hold of the 2-8-99 flecktones show with him do so. Plus it has spanish point which is a great song. Definatly see the Flecktones ASAP. Saw them last summer and I have become a little obsessive over them. I now have all their Cd's, many of their solo projects and I'm getting a good collection of live shows. Probably one of the greatest groups ever. Then Futureman who is the Synth Axe Drumitar player is a genious and then some. Check out his latest invention the Roy-el Piano. He uses new tunings and well a different take on the piano as it's arranged like the periodic table of the elements. He uses atomic tunings though. I was introduced to Tuvan throat singing because of a PBS special. It was amazing. Interestingly, Richard Feynman, a nobel prize winner in Physics, was very interested in the Tuvan culture. The PBS special was about him, but throat-singing is the only part I remember.

| The new Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyar cd comes with a free DVD that is a 30 minute documentary of their tour, specifically the two of them trying to learn this song that Edgar wrote. It is very entertaining, and is worth the price of the cd alone. I mean... it must be a damn hard song for Friggin Bela Fleck to take a whole tour to learn it. (He didn't get it right until the last show of the tour). |

| The drums of which you speak are known as Tablas. The player is Sandip Burman. I actually have a great show of Bela on his sitar banjo and Sandip alone playing a full show. It's pretty cool. Burman is pretty good. And well we all know how good Bela is. As far as Victor's playing that guy is amazing. I still have never seen or heard him do anything like what he did at the show I went to in feb. He played this like 45 minute solo where he actually mid playing as in the music never stopped but he would reach up and start slowly tuning his strings down. He was playing like four parts at the same time too. He was playing a bass part and a melodic part then throwing in some other harmony here and there and at the same time he was doing that rythmic percussive slap stuff. He seriously needs no drums or other accompaniment he is his own band. Anyway he ended up tuning his whole bass down like an octave and he was doing the craziest sounding stuff like I've never heard. Regi was sitting close to me on the stage watching and he was like "uh oh it's going to be chaos time now" or something like that. Vic was playing stuff out of this world with these huge bends and reaching up to strum the strings beyond the nut. Then of course he slowly tunes his bass back up with out the music stopping. He went off that night. Amazing and then some. |

First of all, Flaming Moe!
Second of all, Tim and Bela "duel" during a DMB Concert. It was in Philly, during the winter '98 tour. IT's worth checking out.
Thirdly, I just got my grubby hands on a copy of the Edgar Meyer/Bela Fleck album, and holy cow! It is unbelievably good! I haven't had time to check out the DVD yet, but the music is some of the best stuff I have ever heard.
Fourthly, does anyone have that Yo-Yo Ma/Edgar Meyer/O' Connor album, "Journey Through the Appalachians" or something? I saw it at the store today, and I'm looking for an opinion on it. |

WOW this is really weird cause I'm listening to that right now. This is freaking me out like I'm on the Truman show or something. Anyway the CD is called Appalachian Journey. It's a great CD if you're into some kind of neo classical fusion stuff. That's the only thing I think I can call it. There are 2 stephen foster tunes on the album. Both are good but the one with Alison Krauss is absolutely beautiful. The musicians on this album are absolutely incredible too. I mean Edgar by himself is awesome and if you haven't heard him in Strength in Numbers you should definitley check them out. I recomend it though. There are some other Cd's similar to this that are really good too. Uncommon Ritual (w/Mike Marshall & Bela Fleck), Short Trip Home (w/Sam Bush, Joshua Bell, and Mike Marshall), Appalachia Waltz (this one has the same muscians as Appalachian Journey), and Heartland an Appalachian Anthology which takes songs off of all these related albums. I don't own them all, but I've heard them all and I'm working on owning them all. They are all very good. Need to get the Bela Edgar CD first though. |
