So, I'm graduating in a few weeks from college with a bachelor's degree in English. I'm also moving, into a new apt. where I have my own room, so expenses are going up. I also have pressure from my family to get "a real job". This is quite the problem for me. To me the most important thing about a job is enjoying what you do. I absolutely LOVE my job at Virgin. I love music, and I actually look forward to work each day, something I think not a lot of people do. On the other hand, I know that I can get a job that pays a hell of a lot more money now that I'll have a degree. I want to get into teaching, but I just don't feel old enough to get into a career yet. My other plan is to combine my love for and knowledge of music, with my English degree and maybe look for a job with an artist, or record label as a publisist or something along those lines. But damnit, I just want to stay at Virgin. This sucks. |

You could always try to go the High Fidelity route and open up your own record store. |

Normally I'd say great idea about the record shop, but with Wherehouse, Tower, and others gone bankrupt, the futue doesnt look bright on that front |

OK Kevin, here is a little "gospel according to Pam." FUN CAN BE FOUND IN ALMOST ANY JOB! Here's a list of jobs I had: babysitter of 3 small children salesperson in FW Woolworths Toy dept manager, FW Woolwoths Pet store employee *Factory worker, make-up factory Sales person- Macy's Ladies sportswear (College) Veterinary technician Vet hospital Phila Assistant scientist/Agricultural research Veterinary technician part time nights Kitchen worker school district (Yes I was a lunch lady, LOL) Diningroom aide- middle school Building aide (hall monitor) middle school Instructional Assistant, current and past 7 years My point is I loved all of these jobs except the factory one. That was a scary job, much like being in a woman's prison. I worked on an assembly line and the managers walked around checking on us. We were not allowed to talk, go to the bathroom etc. A whistle blew at breaks and lunch. It was horrible, I hated it. I was only 19 at the time. That job made me want to go to college.
ALL the other jobs I loved and found a great deal of fun in. You will to. I know you want to keep working at Virgin Records, but I assure you there is a job out there for you that you will love just as much. Sounds like a good plan to look at jobs that combine what you love.
What I am doing now, instructional assistant for special ed., I love so much! I love kids and every day I go to work I go with a smile on my face.
Good luck with the job hunting!
