Has anyone gone to see the Broadway show "Spamalot?" I hear it's hilarious...does anyone recommend it?

No, but I read that Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are both receiving royalty checks from it based upon their original investments in Monty Python and The Holy Grail.

I'm going to see "Mama Mia" in Baltimore next saturday. It was my dad's choice and it's a birthday present. I don't care if it absolutely sucks, it gets me out of lifting bags of mulch(work) for eight hours that day.

my favorite color is go fuck yourself. :D

Ditto. I've heard that it's going to tour, but not with the current cast.

Just saw it over Memorial Day weekend. It was AWESOME! Not sure if those who aren't Python fans will like it, but we are and we did. I highly recommend seeing it before Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, and David Hyde Pierce leave the cast.

I also saw a matinee of Wicked, which was great fun. Most of the original cast left after its first season, but it was still really good. Hopefully the same will happen with Spamalot.

I saw Mama Mia when it came through Los Angeles a couple of years ago. I knew a lot of the Abba songs they used, which made it really fun. Toward the end, people actually started standing up and dancing to the music. It's campy, but I liked it!

Well, I guess you can just call me Dan P. on this one...

I HATE MUSICALS!!!

Seriously though, as much as I love music, nothing causes my ears more pain than a showtune. I am hoverever a big Monty Python fan, so I might have to look into this Spamalot thing... I haven't heard anyhing about it, and I figured this thread was about unwanted email.

I don't know how much I'll like seeing "Always Stay on the Brightside of Life" in Spamalot. If it isn't being sung by a chorus of people being crucified, I don't think it will work.

I hear ya Kevin, but not ALL musicals are bad. What I've found, is that either the music is beautiful, or it's pure broadway crap. The Producers, for example... not funny + crappy music = pure suck. But something like Phantom or Les Miserables... great stories and unbelievably beautiful music make them amazing.

Hmmm... it's hard to tell whether you'll like the Spamalot. While it is largely based on Holy Grail, it also takes bits and pieces from other Python sketches. It also makes fun of other broadway shows, which you could find either annoying or hilarious. Broadway parodies include: "The Song That Goes Like This"and "Diva's Lament (Whatever Happened to My Part)"

There's also a Mel Brooksian moment where Sir Robin explains to King Arthur that "You Won't Succeed On Broadway (if you haven't got a Jew)"

if it's at all like the holy grail, pokes fun at other musicals, and has elements of the sketches, I'm sure I'll love it. Man I want to see it soon. I heard something again on the radio about it...this time I heard this campy, funny disco music used at some point in it and seemed hilarious. It has to be a winner

There's sort of Vegas showgirl theme when they get to Camelot. You can't have a broadway musical without women, so they added the character of the Lady of the Lake, as well as her supporting "Laker Girls."

BTW, during the Tony Awards, they do a number or scene from each show nominated for best muscial/best play. If you can find a recording of the Tonys online, you might be able to see a little piece of Spamalot. (They were on the first Sunday in June, if that helps.)
