Not sure where it came from, but TR told us about this the other day in the van! Very KEWL!! |

I'm so excited for this album, mainly because of Tim. 2.5 months left! |

Thanks so much for posting that picture Fluffy!
It seriously took my breath away, you know I have a passion for Indian instruments and always was interested in TR playing the sitar. I knew he played the sitar years ago, didn't know he still does. I must tell Soko about this, he would be thrilled to see the picture too, I'm sure. A friend of Soko's wrote this amazing book on Indian music. He gave a copy of it to me as a gift once.
Again, tell TR thanks for passing the info on, Wow, all I can say is Wow! |

I have to second Pam. Wow. This is the most excited I've been for a new DMB album since BTCS. |

I am really looking forward to hearing Radiance, but the new DMB CD, that is a totally different story! I will wait to hear what others here say about it first. I just don't see myself buying that one. However, I might find out which cut TR plays the sitar on and just buy that song on i-tunes.
Sorry, but I still want to take that "American Baby" crap and shove it down their throats! |

Ha ha ha. I completely understand. The way I figure it, I haven't purchased a studio DMB/Dave product since Everyday. So, I'm willing to take the chance on the new one. But I fully agree about Radiance. February is going to be a great month for CD releases! |

Arthen, so you don't have Busted Stuff? It is a good album, and IMO a lot better than Everyday.
I also have to say, Stand Up wasn't that bad, however it was far from what DMB can do. My problems with Stand Up are that it sounded unfinished and that Joy Ride was pushed to the extra disc and no Sugar Will or Crazy/Easy and Hello Again and Joy Ride seemed like they had the life taken out of them. The band even said they wished they could have worked on the songs more.
If the album is up to par with Busted Stuff I will be happy, and if it reaches anything along the lines of Remember Two Things, Under the Table And Dreaming, Crash, Some Devil, or (unlikely) Before These Crowded Streets, I will be ecstatic! |

so you would rather listen to the song you are interested in in a poor quality format? |

First of all, I am not a fan of DMB, and TR playing with them doesn't change the fact that their music of the past 8-9 years doesn't move me. I would just like to hear what TR did on the sitar on their album. I've heard TR play the sitar, but he isn't a master of it. If I was looking for quality sitar, as much as I admire TR, (and I have enormous admiration & respect for him as a person and as a musician) I would turn to Ravi or Anoushka Shankar. TR is a great musician, and I would like to hear what he did on the sitar but I also know he can't hold a candle to the masters, so quality doesn't concern me, at least not to the degree it would matter with iTune vs a CD. Also, I would prefer to save my money for music I love and I'm far more willing to take a chance on Radiance & some other artist's work than anything DMB can put out.
Personally, I wish TR wouldn't tour or collaborate so much with DMB. I know they are friends, but TR doesn't need to push himself with them and it shows. |

I have "The Summer So Far" as it's been called. Which had a better version of "Captain" than BS, although it's not as good as the versions known as "Crazy" from the nineties D&T Tour. I think I may have a copy of BS, but if I do I don't know where it's at and I don't listen to it. As far as Some Devil goes, I took the five song bonus D&T disc from a friend. From what I've heard of SU, I don't like the sound of the production at all or the particular cuts. I've come to enjoy some of them live, particular "Louisiana Bayou." But, over the past few years I've not been excited by their releases. |

"The Summer So Far" is more commonly known as the Lillywhite Sessions. There are some things on the LWS that is better than BS, but there are things on BS that are better than the LWS. I think Grey Street is much more powerful on BS, and Grace Is Gone seems to have more life on BS. I also am not a huge fan of Captain on the LWS because it is too depressing and dead IMO. I prefer the more upbeat love inspired one of BS (however I agree that the few Crazy performances with Tim were the best). I do think Bartender is better on LWS, and I adore JTR. Raven is a toss up on both.
As for Tim playing with DMB, I wish he would do it more often. The reason why is because I think DMB is better when they have Tim aboard. I don't think it pushes Tim at all, he just slips in there perfectly without much effort.
Also, PJK, when you say the music they have done for the past 8-9 years, are you talking about studio or live? Live they are just fantastic as they were in the 90s. The 2004 tour was spectacular. The live versions of Hello Again, Joyride, Sugar Will, and Crazy/Easy were amazing. And then there is the 2000 tour which is legendary. Also I think Cornbread and #27 are some of the best work they have done since 1998.
I love DMB as much as I love Tim. For me when you put them together I get to have my cake and eat it too, as well as seconds. |

Nick, I am glad you like DMB, obviously thousands of people do, I just don't care for their music, recorded or live. Last summer I went to hear TR3 open for DMB in VA Beach. I left half way into the DMB set. I was totally bored....and hot. It was absolutely worth the trip down just to hear TR3 and I would do it again, especially at that venue because I did siteseeing as well.
As I have said many times over the years the great thing about music is that there is something for everyone. Just as I feel bored with DMB, so would most all of their fans feel bored sitting at the Kimmel Center in Philly listening to Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg play Bach's Brandenberg Concerto No 5 in D. She literally brings tears to my eyes when I hear her play, her music is that powerful.
I know the members of DMB are all great musicians in their own right, but I just don't care for what they do collectively. I did like their older music. Love the songs Crush, Cry Freedom, & Two Step, but the only "new" DMB song I even enjoy hearing is Louisiana Bayou because of it's catchy beat. I did thoroughly enjoy hearing TR & Dave at Radio City Music Hall.
Again, it is all a matter of taste that's all. Who likes what band is insignificant, all that matters is that music makes people feel good and there is something for everyone to enjoy. An appreciation for music is a gift to be cherished. I know music has been my life savor many times over the years and I am so thankful I can hear!

Well at least now I don't have to feel bad for not buying the CD. TR's sitar was the only thing that sparked my interest in it. |

Ach! I'm dismayed and disappointed. I'll just bit torrent the album when it comes out and decide if I want to buy it after that. |

Oh well.
There are artists who I buy every album of every single time. The list includes TR, Robyn Hitchcock, Peter Gabriel, and others. It included other people like Chris Whitley and Elliott Smith who are now dead. DMB is not on the list.
If I like what I hear, I will purchase a copy. If I don't like it, I'll probably delete the songs from my computer. No harm no foul. I've been burned too many times by buying crappy albums. Case in point, this past week The Decemberists released a new album: "The Hazards of Love." I read a lot of positive reviews so I downloaded it. I absolutely loved it. What did I do? I ordered a copy of it off of Amazon. Everybody wins. Delicate sensibilities aside, it's the most practical way for me to support musicians. |
