You know there is a new Jason movie coming out? I saw the previews for it when I went to see Blade 2... it honestly looks so cheesy the entire theater was chuckling when the preview was showing. It's something like Jason in space and these people lock him in a room on this ship and he "melds" with the ship to become a super half-human half-robot Jason. It looks hysterical. -J

Haha... I can't help but feel partially responsible. I think it started when Fluffy was saying that he was getting a complex about being the last poster in each thread, and I told him I wouldn't let that happen in this one. Then we bantered back and forth for a while... and that seemed to be like pulling the rip chord on a lawnmower to get it started. Now the grass is cut, the damn thing's run out of gas, and it's still running. We've beaten it with a hammer but it won't turn off. It's like the lamp that burned for 8 days when it only had enough oil for one. I'm starting to believe that this thread really WON'T ever die. -J

I can't believe this topic is 4 pages long. Do you think anyone new to the board would actually read thru 4 pages. If you read between the lines, you'll find the secret to life, the fountain of youth, the answer to how the multiverse originated. All of lifes most complex questions are answered right here in these four short pages..

Three Cheers for Kaleigh!!! Finally someone askes the question. I made that joke a long long TIMe ago hoping someone would ask what the hell I was talking about. Noone even nipped at the hook. So here it is:
(ugly girl, fine body walks by) Man 1 says: That girls a butterhead!!! Man 2 asks: Whats a butterhead? Man 1 answers: I like everthing about her BUT HER HEAD!!!
TaDa!!!!! Kaleigh, thanx for finally closing a chapter on that really bad joke I tried to offer up some time ago. Maybe I can actually let this topic die now. HMMMMMM probably not.

"probably not" that reminds me of the stupidity of cheerleaders...now let me elaborate on that with a story. i was at a rival school's basketball game with some friends, and the usual guy thing to do at games like that are pick up hot girls. anyway we go up to one their cheerleader's and my friend asks her,"hey, how's it going?" she turns around and says back to him, "NO, probably not!" what the hell, what a strange reply....

Yeah thanks.....I'll log that away. This reminds me of my College Writing class first semester. Our teacher had told us that we were to pick a subject for our research paper and ask him if it was feasible. So we all come into class and people start raising their hands. I hear things like "The history of Barbie Dolls and their effect on girls"....."The importance of sports in a guy's life".....and the at the top "The debate whether cheerleading is a sport.....favoring yes"......now it was at this TIMe that I start questioning my topic due to these recent ideas. So I raise my hand and ask if "Had Hitler been a more competent leader would the Axis Powers have won?"........it was also about this TIMe that everyone looked at me like I was insane. And I simply returned the look.

OK......here it is....but I know that I should have had more people proofread it before turning it in.....which is zero.....including me. The paper is actually ten pages double spaced.....so it can't be too long on this message board. Also.....the parts where the type is much smaller are just block quotes and the spacings above and below them aren't new paragraphs. Stupid inability to use TAB.
Hitler: The Greatest Military Blunders Ever Made
Throughout the course of history, there are many famous leaders who stand out for their accomplishments as well as their mistakes. Perhaps the greatest leader who is known solely for his blunders is Adolf Hitler. As the spokesman of the National Socialist German Workers’ (Nazi) Party, Hitler focused on foreign affairs and completely ignored the demise of Germany. In order to regain the trust of the German people, Hitler broke the Treaty of Versailles and sent German troops into the Rhineland. Without any bloodshed, he reclaimed the land. After taking Austria and Czechoslovakia in the same manner, Hitler eventually rose to the ranks of Fuhrer of the Nazi party in early 1938. However, when he moved into Poland, England and France took notice and had to act. Thus, World War II began.
At first glance, the acts that Hitler took to spark World War II seem unprovoked. However, the German unrest traces all the way back to the end of the Great War; primarily to the Treaty of Versailles.
Articles 42, 43, and 44 of the treaty created a ‘demilitarized zone’ in the Rhineland. This barred any German military facilities or activities in all German territory west of the Rhine River and within 50 kilometers of the river’s east bank, an area that included the German cities of Bonn, Cologne, and Düsseldorf. Regaining German territory lost through the signing of the treaty was a desire of the German people that Hitler repeatedly promised to fulfill. (Duffy, 5)
Also, a $33 billion reparation was due to the French. After the Germans refused to pay the bill, as it would send the country into hyperinflation, the French Army invaded the industrial part of Germany in 1923. The Germans had no choice but to agree, and the economy plummeted. When the U.S. stock market crashed on October 29, 1929, America demanded its reparations to aid their own economy. Needless to say, the German economy was almost completely destroyed and led to great unrest toward the foreign powers. Hitler used this hatred to fuel his campaign to the seat of Chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. Once there, his Nazi Reichstag (German parliament) passed a law giving him complete dictatorial power on March 23, 1933. This act would confirm the end of the Nazi power as well as the German people.
Hitler’s inclination that his ideas and actions were always correct was arguably his greatest weakness. When warned of an opposition upon invading Poland, Hitler dismissed it because there were no opposing forces when he took over the other territories. Hitler saw himself as the savior of the German people. He was the one chosen to take revenge on the Allies for the unfair treaty that they were forced to sign. Little did Hitler know that what he was undertaking would soon escalate into the largest event on the planet. Therefore, if Hitler had been a more rational person and played his role of Chancellor more efficiently, the Third Reich would most likely have succeeded in crushing the Allied opposition.
Throughout the war, Hitler had performed many blunders which greatly crippled his chance for world domination. Although many of them could have easily been altered, changing one would create a chain of events. For example, if the Royal Air Force (RAF) had been destroyed in the Battle of Britain beginning in July of 1940, then the Allied invasion of Normandy would probably not have succeeded due to the lack of British air support. Along with this blunder, Hitler also avoided using the support of the Russian people toward his advantage, failed to recognize Moscow as an important target in the Eastern Front, joined forces with the Japanese, overslept on the day of the Normandy invasion, and dismissed nuclear physics and gravely misused German weapons.
In early July of 1940, Hitler decided to begin an attack on the RAF over the English Channel. Originally, he did not want to fight the English because of the high regard with which he held them. The overall governments were the same as well as the basic lifestyles. However, through pressure from his advisors, Hitler decided to attack Great Britain on July 10, 1940. He sent the Luftwaffe (German air force) in which “German bombers attacked shipping in the English Channel while their fighter escorts engaged British fighters in deadly combat” (Duffy, 60). The primary objective of the attack was to lure the reserve Spitfires and Hurricanes out so that the superior German air force would obliterate the outnumbered RAF. Although the objective failed, the English casualties were ten times that of the Luftwaffe. On August 12, 1940, the Germans launched a second wave, but this time the objective was to knock out the six radar stations on the British coast so that they would not be able to detect future blitzkriegs. After destroying five of the stations, Hitler decided to shift the target toward the British cities, in retaliation for the British attack on the German cities. If the raids over the English Channel continued, the RAF would have been completely destroyed and the Germans would have faced little or no air resistance for the majority of the war. The invasion of Normandy might not have succeeded if the British air support wasn’t there to cripple the defenses before the first troops arrived. Also, the lack of bombers would have decreased the amount of raids on German factories and cities later in the war. Therefore, the Nazis would have held more equipment and would have had enough power to overrun the opposing forces. However, the opposite turned out to be true. By 1944, the Luftwaffe had virtually run out of pilots and planes.
Allied bombers hemmed in aircraft production and heavily damaged the plants producing aviation fuel. The switch to an anti-bombing strategy, and the destruction wreaked in the battles over the Reich, fatally weakened German air power at the front-line, which had relied on large numbers of medium-bombers. Allied air forces enjoyed a superiority of seventy to one in the invasion of France. German ground forces were compelled to fight the last two years of war with limited or non-existent air support. (Overy, 322)
The fate of the Luftwaffe was sealed when Hitler abused his power and solely decided to alter the mission objective. Had Hitler listened to his advisors, the outcome would have proven much more valuable.
When Hitler decided to change the plans, the Wehrmacht (all German armed forces) had no choice but to follow their unquestionable leader. No one dared to challenge his decisions for fear being killed because they undermined his authority. It’s ironic that a country so adamantly opposed to communism found a way to turn their government into a communist regime without anyone knowing. This is an excellent example of some of Hitler’s intelligence.
As German troops moved through Soviet towns on their way to destroy the communist order, cheering and praises erupted from the townsfolk. This unusual attitude came from the Russians’ hatred of the structure of the Soviet Union. In order to gain more control over his citizens, Stalin enforced a famine of which about 15 million died. Therefore, many tried to join the crusade. However, Hitler did not want these White Russians in his army as it contradicted his “superior race” of Aryans. His blind and illogical views prevented him from greatly increasing his military strength which could have proven valuable on the Soviet battlefields. Instead, he ordered towns to be burnt to the ground after being ransacked. In one swift move, Hitler created even more enemies and greatly crippled his chances of defeating his eastern neighbors.
If deciding to attack the Red Army wasn’t enough of a blunder, sending troops in mid-June of 1941, directly before the worst Russian winter in half a century proved to be worse. Hitler originally decided to begin Operation Barbarossa one month before, but when Hitler’s allies, the Italians (led by Mussolini) foolishly attacked a more powerful Greece in late October of 1940, they called upon him for assistance. Therefore, forces were removed from the Eastern Front to aid the retreating Italian troops. The loss of a month led the Heeres (German army) to be caught in freezing temperatures with standard military clothing. Although the Germans constantly lost lives due to the bitter cold, the retreating Soviet forces were too much for Hitler to resist. So the Heeres moved on toward Stalingrad on the Fuhrer’s orders. The primary target should have been Moscow: the center of the entire communist regime. If Moscow had fallen, the Red Army would have most likely followed in suit. But Hitler intervened and redirected his army toward a factory city which held little significance and an even worse geographical disadvantage. Encased in a valley, Stalingrad was an easy target for whoever was trapped inside. Once the Germans fell into this deathtrap, they were quickly surrounded by the enclosing Soviet army. After many offers by the communists towards the Germans for medicine which they badly needed, Hitler ordered the armies to fight back to the last man. Finally, General Friedrich von Paulus, leader of the Sixth Army, surrendered the remaining 94,000 troops to the Russians. Very few soldiers survived the encampment.
...Hitler’s statements clearly show that he saw the conquest of the city that had born Stalin’s name since 1925 as a matter of prestige. The struggle for Stalingrad became symbolic of the struggle between the two tyrants. No voluntary retreats were therefore possible without one of the two dictators losing face and suffering a tremendous loss of prestige. (Muller & Ueberschar, 113)
Once again, the Nazi powerhouse succumbed to the ignorance of a man with more power than he could handle.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese launched a daring surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States primary naval base on the west coast. Six carriers transporting 251 planes began their attack at dawn in two waves, thirty minutes apart from each other. In their wake, 21 ships were either sunk or damaged and 350 aircraft units were either destroyed or damaged, mostly on the ground before take-off. Although no U.S. carriers were damaged and all but three of the ships were repaired, the attack united the nation and gave President Roosevelt the excuse he needed to bypass the country’s position of isolationism and enter the war. Hitler was shocked and terrified. A few days earlier, Hitler promised the Japanese that he would aid them in any fighting against the United States. He made this agreement in order to receive help in defeating the Soviets, which seemed to be going slower than he expected. Little did he know that he just made a terrible mistake that would result in the gain of a more powerful adversary than an ally. In about two and a half years, the British, with its newfound allies, would storm the beaches of Normandy and slowly make their way to the streets of Berlin.
On June 6, 1944, Operation Overlord, otherwise known as the Normandy invasion, began the Allied offensive that eventually crushed the opposing forces. An attack involving 6,000 ships began their attack of the heavily fortified beachhead at dawn. A few hours earlier, 20,000 paratroopers landed in the French countryside between the Orne and Vire rivers. A few hours later, Field Marshal von Rundstedt caught word of the landing and ordered two of the OKW (Oberkommando des Wehrmacht, supreme command of all the German armed forces) panzer reserve divisions to attack the unprotected paratroopers. After only a few minutes, he was ordered to stop the mobilization because Hitler had not given the order to do so. Von Rundstedt had no choice but to follow orders. Throughout the rest of the morning and early afternoon, the Field Marshal constantly phoned the OKW to find if Hitler had allowed the attack to continue. The answer had come back the same: he was sleeping and no one dared wake him. By the time Hitler had risen and confirmed to mobilization, the Allied troops had already joined with their rendezvous at a beachhead that was secured during Operation Overlord. Although von Rundstedt was furious, he did nothing for fear of being discharged or killed for questioning the authority of the Chancellor of Germany. Once again, the German military fell to the acts of their own leader. Had Hitler given some of his power to his advisors, the paratroopers would have been engaged and overrun by superior German weapons which they had at their disposal. However, Hitler proved to be a little egoistical, and the power went directly to his head. Since he saw himself as the savior of the German people, only he could give decisions and lead the people. Simultaneously, he did not think too highly of the German people when he said “what luck for rulers that men do not think” (Byrne, 359).
“If the dismissal of Jewish scientists means the annihilation of German science, then we shall have to do without science for a few years” (Duffy, 125). Hitler’s subordinate view toward science and technology greatly hindered Germany’s chance for victory. Since the majority of the scientists in Germany were Jewish, the others scientists that were not killed or driven out of Germany could not work as productively or efficiently as their Ally counterparts. They were not able to work on atomic bombs because Hitler saw nuclear physics as a Jewish science. However, through these hardships, German scientists stumbled upon an astonishing achievement in early of 1942: the jet engine. If this new discovery had been used to its full capacity, the results would have been devastating. Jet airplanes could have flown circles around the spitfires and hurricanes which still used propellers. German bombers could attack important targets while outrunning both ground fire and fighter planes whose previous speed superiority was its only strength against the superfortresses. Surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) would have been able to rid the skies of bombers attacking German factories and refineries. Air-to-air missiles would have made it much easier for German pilots to take down fighters and bombers, as well as attack ground sites like military bases and strongholds. However, Germans did create a jet plane in 1942 called the ME 262. This new “miracle weapon” was able to travel 150 miles per hour faster than any other fighter in the sky. Most German scientists and military personnel saw this accomplishment as the single most important weapon that would change the tide of the war. However, Hitler had different ideas. He ordered the ME 262 to be retrofitted into a bomber so that nothing could touch it. Although this seems like a good idea at first glance, the ME 262 was a relatively small plane and would not have been able to carry more than 1,000 pounds of bombs at one time; this was insignificant to the thousands of tons of bombs being dropped by U.S. superfortresses everyday. Later, Hitler changed his mind and wanted the ME 262 to be a fighter. However by this time, it was 1944 and when the fighter did enter the skies, it was too late to make any sort of impact. This was due both to the lateness of the war and the lack of supplies to build an adequate amount to make an impact. If Hitler was not so spontaneous and ignorant toward the impact of science on modern warfare, Germany could have created some “miracle weapons” that would have salvaged both the Nazi party and Hitler himself.
Hitler was an able leader, but not a competent one. In terms of military strategies and tactics, Hitler needed the help of his advisors, but he would not listen to them. Hitler’s primary mission objective was to restore Germany to its original condition before the Great War. However, the Treaty of Versailles and interference from other European countries made his plan impossible. Hitler had a fascination with numbers and believed that if his side had more troops or more weapons than the enemy, he would be guaranteed victory. Therefore, he placed anyone, including prisoners, in troops or in charge of powerful weapons to fight, but was surprised to find that he still lost. Along with his allure toward numbers, Hitler relied heavily on blitzkriegs to win any battles.
Hitler was building a weaponry that would enable Germany to win by Blitzkrieg-surprise attack, swift invasion, exploitation of the confusion, and quick victory. As long as he had such superiority in weapons, Hitler did not need a superiority in numbers of troops. He preferred this kind of warfare because it achieved his goal swiftly…Total rearmament-troops as well as weapons-would require a complete overhaul of the economy, thereby frightening the country and shaking its faith in the Fuhrer. (Eubanks, 37)
Although this tactic is effective and deadly, when it is done incorrectly, the results could be disastrous. Hitler made this mistake when he decided to invade the Soviet Union in 1941.
In December 1941 Germany found herself at war with a combination of the three largest industrial economies outside Continental Europe, a war that Germany, allied to economically weak states, could never hope to win. Hitler’s belief that a Germany super-power could tear up the political structure of Europe and western Asia and replace with a Party-led authoritarian empire was always irrational and deluded. (Overy, 315)
It was not only his military decisions that cost Hitler the war; it was also the philosophy that he held toward himself. His “irrational and deluded” behavior did not fit a profile for an active leader that had complete control of an entire country. His egotistical nature fueled his desire to succeed despite his lack of knowledge or experience of military strategies. If Hitler did not have complete control of the OKW and listened to his military advisors, the Nazis would have succeeded in their struggle to control Europe.

I found that amazing interesting and intriguing. I saw a movie once(I forget the name) but it was touted as a movie about "what if Germany had won the war". Well it focused mainly on what the world would be like if Germany had triumphed. I hoped it would be more like your paper and gone more into the battles and what could have been done differently to change the outcome. Instead it was some insipid espionage thriller(with a romantic storyline) set in a post WWII world where Germany had won the war. I was quite let down. Your paper sounds like it would have been the movie I wanted to see. I think your summation at the end could have been a little more indepth, but that aside I was quite impressed. GOLD STAR!!! Well worth the read. Thanx for posting it. What kind of grade did you get on it? Just curious.

Congratulations on the A. Not bad for a shortbus rider. I wanted to post a picture for you but I spent to much TIMe trying to locate it. So I will just describe it.(Sensitive folks please stop reading now!) I once saw a t-shirt that was designed like a tour shirt that said "Hitler European Tour 1939-1945" Then it had all the pertinent battles listed as tour dates below and the last few were crossed off as "CANCELLED". Your paper made me think of it. I thought it was hilarious. I think most will take offense, I hope not. Take it in the humor with which I deliver it. No malice intended.

It's out there! They may have it at a store here in DC, I can check for you if you like. I also found it on one of those rascist NAZI websites but I really would suggest not giving your money to them for anything.

If you read it all together in one sitting, forwards then backwards, the meaning of life will be revealed to you. It is a puzzle as complex as the puzzle box in hellraiser. Only it's a little more dangerous than that.

So to sum up....I'm good. How are you?

Hummmmm, that's the million dollar question Patrick. I've got personal issues that I hope will start to be resolved on monday. I feel like my life is in a suspended state at the moment. I'm doing something I should have done many years ago. Life is too short and I'm going to make the best of what's left of it!!! Sorry to be so vague, but when the TIMe comes, I'll post it. Then it's celebration TIMe!
