Echoing the style of La Mer De Noms, yea/nay? I like 'em, but I find it hard to describe their sound, kind of a cross between Sting, N*SYNC (shudders), Mary J. Blige, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a slightly more upbeat Norah Jones, w/ just a pinch of Latin thrown in... I think the music's pretty good for the most part, they seem like a very well-put-together band, and I like the lyrical style as well. Anyone have an opinion?

I have an opinion alright. I can't stand them. And if it wasn't enough that I didn't like them or their music, John Mayer described them as "Gritty". That definitely doesn't do any good for them.

grit·ty
adjective
1. resolute: courageous, resolute, or persistent
2. realistic: having a stark realism
3. like or with grit: resembling, containing, or covered with grit

Not exactly what I would call them.

Which further proves that John Mayer is a complete douchebag.

I have worked in a record store on and off for the last 15 years or so and pretty much listen to everything wether I like it or not. Unfortunatly, playing stuff sells stuff! LOL Some of the stuff I was kinda surprised by were the Maroon 5 and Five for Fighting. Both better than you would think, tho I wouldnt' run out and buy it! Also good stuff out by Gary Jules, new Norah Jones is good, I love the new Jimmis Chicken Shack ( tho I AM from Annapolis, it's ginda a given! LOL )and, ummmmm, let's see, Nellie McKay is decent too. After I get to work today, I'll probably think of lots more! LOL

I had read that stuff in the other posts about Mayer being a douchebag and all (or was it a fucking tool?) but I hadn't ever really listened to him concsiously. From what they were showing on TV which was a song and a short interview type thing I couldn't believe it. This guy is totally imitating Dave. Except he's worse. Far worse. So I now fully endorse that John Mayer is a Douchebag.

And here we go again, another John Mayer Bashfest haha... oh I forgot there's one song where the guy reminds me of John Ondradisk from Five for Fighting too.

Back on topic...I just recently got a new found appreciation for Maroon5. Having seen them open for DMB a while back, I got their album a few weeks ago, and was knocked on my ass. The production of this album is outstanding (sorry...that's what I look for first in a CD). Great sound. Some of the songs aren't that great, but the "more gooder" ones outweigh the bad ones.

Looking forward to hearing more good sounds from this band...

the douchebag comment was great.

I didn't realize until later that when you said John Mayer called him gritty, it was on the cover of the Moron 5 cd. I thought that was like a quote of mayer bashing Moron5...anyway
they both suck, all well.........theres too much great music out there to focus on the bad stuff, but I guess it makes us feel good sometimes...It seems that A LOT of musicians are a lot like a lot of other musicians, just seems that every 16-24 year old guitar player tries to do Dave stuff...
anyway, check out my Dave stuff...

Okay so I saw these guys open for Guster at my college here and all I can remember is the fact that their poser/lead singer guy would pick up an electric guitar at the end of every song and play some power chords as if to say "look at me! aren't I cool? don't you think I truly rock?!" My God! I wanted to punch him in the face. So so so very idiotic. Hell Ryan even made fun of the guy when Guster took the stage. Maybe their cd is okay, but stay away from them live or vomiting may occur.
