well, i know it's not the same time for everyone, but this week (11/15-11/19) is Hell Week for the poor souls here at Clarkson University.
on top of the usual cramming of projects and other miscellaneous bullshit this time of year, i'm especially miserable because i fucking hate this place. you see, i'm transferring back home to Buffalo State in the spring, and i can't wait to get out of this joke of a college. WHY THE HELL DID I COME HERE!!???
sorry. i had to vent.
how's everyone else's blood pressure? |

Eh things are fine. Except for my Midi lab class everything has been pretty easy and not that midi lab hasn't, but I really hate that class. |

I have two classes which involve sight singing and/or sight singing while playing the piano....those suck. Other than that, it's mildly stressful. I can't wait till next semester, the last one, I'll only have two classes and golf, along with ensembles, but those are fun. |

My semester took a nose dive a few weeks ago. The world blows. Life can suck my dick, etc. This one's almost over. Next semester is my last and will be 21 credits of torment. |

I don't have any midterms or anything now, but my work stuff is piling up, and personal relationships are whacky. It'll be amazing if I survive this week without turning into a cigarette smoker. |

Oh man I hate sight singing so bad right now. Firstly I can't sing and secondly my teacher is always pushing me to the end of my small vocal range. Then I'm trying to actually hit the right pitch while getting the syllables right and I always screw at least one thing up. |

Does he let you change octaves and/or transpose to an easier key? I've found that solfedge(sp?) works really well, but its not for everybody... |

No she let's us transpose but we had to do duets and it had to be where it was at and it seems like she only let's it go just low enough for me to get the high notes. I haven't even begun to get into the minor syllables and so far the intervals have been easy no major sevenths or anything. I just am a bad singer and from being used to seeing a note and plucking it to hear the sound it's different when you read something and you have to produce the right pitch as well so that it actually comes from you. I just need to practice it but it's on the bottom of the practice ladder right along with keyboard skills. |

Again, I'm wierd, but I think accidentals are easier with solfedge too, the way you alter the sylable makes sense to me. I dunno, it all sucks, but it pays off big time once you get it down. |

Eh we were running a little behind due to a guest speaker and such and now we don't have to do any of the Sol Feg singing till finals week. Then we get tested on like three or four weeks left. So it's out of sight out of mind for me. That's good too because I'm always coming up a little flat.
Flea I have no idea how you think all the accidentals are easy. I looked ahead and I couldn't even get close singing by myself. I was constantly in the cracks. |

I think of the accidental as the leading tone or 7th degree of whatever note is next. That's the easiest way to go about it I think, although you have to have the major and minor scales down pretty well to get the point where you can insert that secondary dominant/subtonic accidental. |
